LR Mega Patches: what leave-on patches are and how they are structured

The Mega Patches from LR and Dr. Juchheim are cosmetic patches for the forearm with two layers, a backing film and an active ingredient matrix, which release their care ingredients over 12 to 24 hours. Who developed them, what “Smart Care Release Technology” means and why a patch is a cosmetic and not a medicinal product.

A plaster that dresses no wound but cares for the skin: that is the idea behind the LR Mega Patches. Instead of a cream that you apply in the morning and that has been absorbed an hour later, a small patch sits on the inside of the forearm and releases its care ingredients over the day or the night. This text explains where the product comes from, how it is structured, and what it is and what it is not.

Who is behind it

The Mega Patches are the first product of the “LR meets Dr. Juchheim” collaboration. For this, LR Health & Beauty, the manufacturer of the aloe vera products on our shelves, has teamed up with the brand of Dr. med. Jürgen Juchheim. According to the documents, Juchheim is a specialist physician focusing on immunology and medical aesthetics, has run a practice and clinic in Munich for 35 years and is the founder and managing director of Dr. Juchheim GmbH. LR calls him a “longevity expert”; longevity, meaning a long, healthy life, is the theme under which LR runs the collaboration.

For you as a customer, all this means for now is that the patches carry two brands, LR and Dr. Juchheim, and that they come from the same source as the other LR products.

Two layers, one job

Every Mega Patch consists of two components:

  • The backing film is on the outside. It seals the patch and prevents the care ingredients from evaporating.
  • The active ingredient matrix is on the inside, against the skin. It adheres, and at the same time it is the reservoir for the cosmetic active ingredients.

The manufacturer describes this as a “multi-layer cosmetic patch concept”: the matrix keeps the care ingredients in contact with the skin over a longer period, and the film ensures that they stay there. LR calls this principle “Smart Care Release Technology”. In plain terms, this means no more and no less than that the release does not happen all at once but gradually, according to the manufacturer over about twelve to 24 hours.

This distinguishes a patch from a cream that you apply and that is then absorbed or wiped off. But it also distinguishes it from a medical patch intended to deliver an active substance into the body. More on this in a moment.

Where the patch goes

The patches are intended for one place: the inside of the forearm. The skin there is thin, the patch does not get in the way and it is invisible under a sleeve. The manufacturer explicitly writes “exclusively on the inside of the forearm”. The three-step application, the wearing time and what applies when combining patches are described in the text Using Mega Patches correctly.

A cosmetic, not a medicinal product

This sentence appears on every page of the LR documents, and it belongs here too: “Mega Patches are cosmetic products.” This is not a footnote but the classification against which everything else is measured.

Under the EU Cosmetics Regulation, a cosmetic product is intended to come into external contact with the skin in order to clean it, perfume it, protect it, keep it in good condition or change its appearance. What a cosmetic is not: a product for treating diseases or for altering bodily functions. That is why you will not find any promises about energy, well-being, the menopause or ageing in our texts on the patches. What the manufacturer says about these, we reproduce as its statement, clearly labelled, in the text The four Mega Patches at a glance.

The classification also includes the manufacturer's note on tolerability: in the event of very rare intolerances such as skin redness or itching, the patch should simply be removed.

What is in the pack

Each variant comes as a pouch with 30 patches on carrier sheets, intended as a one-month supply at one patch a day. The pouches are colour-coded: yellow-orange for Biomagnetic, green for Cannapur, blue for Longevity, purple for Menolivia. LR's article numbers are 20512-1, 20511-1, 20513-1 and 20510-1.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Mega Patch a food supplement?

No. Food supplements are eaten or drunk; the patches are stuck onto the skin and are cosmetics. Nevertheless, according to the manufacturer, anyone who takes in vitamin A through the skin, for example, should keep an eye on the recommended daily intake; this is what is stated for the Longevity variant.

Can I use a patch more than once?

The documents provide for one patch per application: stick it on, wear it for twelve to 24 hours, take it off. There is no mention of reuse.

Can the patch be seen?

It is about the size of a thumb, sits on the inside of the forearm and bears the LR logo and the name of the variant. It cannot be seen under a long sleeve.

Where can I buy the patches?

Not from us at the moment. As soon as the Mega Patches are on our shelves and released for sale, they will appear below the texts on the topic page LR Mega Patches.
